Awards Day and the Second Mathematics Department Distinguished Alumni Award

Awards Day Presentations

The Awards Day ceremonies will begin with refreshments at 3:00. Awards will be given out starting at 3:30, with awards given to undergraduate and graduate students who have distinguished themselves either academically or through their service to the department. New PiMuEpsilon will also be honored.

The award presentation will be followed by a special speaker, Professor Thomas Pietraho of Bowdoin College, who will speak on "No Statistician Left Behind; How (not) to Measure the Student Achievement Gap."

Distinguished Alumni Award

The Second Mathematics Department Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented to Professor Robert Makuch of the Yale University School of Public Health, a 1972 graduate of the University of Connecticut Mathematics Department.

The Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented to Professor Makuch during a reception and dinner at the Alumni Center.

The reception at the Alumni Center will begin at 6:00. During the event, Professor Makuch will talk about his time at UConn and his life-work.
